The Dark Side of Beauty Blogging
Becoming a “Beauty Influencer” has taken up the better part of my 2018 and 2019 trying to crack the nut of how to get more followers on my Instagram (BeautyReviewsca) and visitors to my website Beauty Reviews Canada.
I’ve been asking myself questions such as: How do I get the reach audience I know I deserve? How long should I spend on flat lays? How much makeup do I buy before going broke and a pile of unused lipstick on my counter collecting dust?
Sure, I’ve gotten followers and have a pretty good engagement rate at 12% trying to grow @beautyreviewsca. Nobody sticks around long enough to see the real ins and outs of my daily life.
I also struggle to put so much of myself out there in the world. How many stories do I post in a day versus the other creators in my beauty Instagram niche? Sometimes I’m tired or I don’t care to take a story of my pedicure because that’s considered “me time”.
I’m envious of other bloggers’ camera quality and keep experimenting with different set ups in my condo with slight improvement along the way. I’m always wondering why my lighting isn’t as bang on as the 13 year old beauty guru? Blame it on the lighting.
