Don’t Under Estimate The $5 Bill

It’s worth more than you think.

Have you ever thought: What if you saved every single $5 bill I ever received?

If I saved the blue ones (I’m Canadian), I’m sure I’d have enough for the bank to suspect I was laundering.

If I had saved all of those $5, there seemingly wouldn’t be any:

$5 lattes from Starbucks.

2 for $5 chocolate bars.

$5 scratch off lottery tickets.

$5 for fries in the cafeteria when I was 13.

$5 add-on items from Amazon to qualify for free shipping.

Any other extra check out concession products.

I could go on but I want to get to the point quickly.

My parents always told me “save your money because you’ll truly need it one day”.

Today being December 18, 2020 — looking to buy a house in Toronto is that one day.

This year would’ve benefited me greatly by saving all of those $5 bills.

And yet, I cannot say that I would go back and change my behavior.

I enjoyed my 20’s for being able to spend an afternoon with myself parading around downtown Toronto without a care in the world.

I can still taste that $5 green smoothie now which made me feel so chic in the cooler part of the city, Queen St. West.

Today, upon walking my daughter I picked up some Lindt chocolate bars that were on sale: 2 for $5.

To me, Lindt chocolate was totally worth it and helped my mental health as I navigate life with a 5.5 month old baby.

Those chocolate bars hidden crisply in the back of a drawer will be where I go to occasionally when the little one won’t nap or is beyond tears one day.

The $5 will help me get through the day.

The $5 will help me smile more at my husband .

The $5 will help me be my very best self.

Because to me, chocolate is worth multiple $5 bills.

And yes, even a Starbucks latte is worth the $5 to me when I’m craving for some over priced steamed milk and a shot of espresso.

The $5 bill is my vice for when I need an outlet.

I don’t smoke.

I rarely drink anymore.

I don’t shop for big ticket items.

Sometimes the mighty but little $5 is all you need to start seeing the brighter side of things.

What will you spend your $5 on today?
