Makeup and skincare is low on the priority in 2021

As a budding beauty blogger still trying to find where I fit in the world of YouTube, and now TikTok celebs, my one vice was buying new makeup.

I love taking beautiful photos of new products in their packaging and showing how the product swatches on the skin.

Delivering a new message for 2021.

Every year around this blurry last week in December, I get excited for a few things: hot chocolate, lazy mornings on the couch and the Pantone color of the year selection.

For the past 20 years, the Pantone Color of the Year sets the tone and feeling of the upcoming year.

This selection, voted by a panel of judges and trend analysis which will influence home décor, fashion and other elements of design.

Last year the color for 2020 was “Classic Blue”.

From the swatch below — what does it mean to you?

Say goodbye to presets, polish and perfection.

I couldn’t quite put my finger on why TikTok started to become the new favourite social app when it first arrived.

I figured Snapchat would takeover the Zillenials as their platform of choice.

I’ve written about TikTok before but I never thought that TikTok would become this crazed.

I’ve been quite active on the platform and making my own TikTok videos.

I’ve found videos on the platform are:

  1. Easier to create — I can create 5 TikToks in a day if I’m creative enough and you don’t need any fancy equipment to do so.
  2. More Accepting — You don’t need…

A generalist or missing my true calling?

Photo by Michael Liao on Unsplash

I’m:

A Mom.

A Digital Marketer.

A Beauty Expert.

A Canadian.

A Writer.

So what’s my brand?

I’m trying to fit into a mold set out here on Medium.com along with the rest of the world.

In researching how to be a great writer, I’m told to write about my experiences but also niche down.

In writing my beauty blog Beauty Reviews Daily (shameless plug), I’m also told to niche down — beauty is too broad.

I can write about being a mom but I struggle with the identify of what kind of mom I actually am. …

It’s worth more than you think.

Have you ever thought: What if you saved every single $5 bill I ever received?

If I saved the blue ones (I’m Canadian), I’m sure I’d have enough for the bank to suspect I was laundering.

If I had saved all of those $5, there seemingly wouldn’t be any:

$5 lattes from Starbucks.

2 for $5 chocolate bars.

$5 scratch off lottery tickets.

$5 for fries in the cafeteria when I was 13.

$5 add-on items from Amazon to qualify for free shipping.

Any other extra check out concession products.

I could go on but I want to get to…

How my Efficiency Has Changed post Baby

We see Marge, in the kitchen, sipping a glass of wine because: the dishwasher was running, the beds were made, the Roomba was running and essentially all housework was done and the day had just begun.

I sit here, writing this with my half cup of coffee because I have been able to drink that much this morning.

I remark to my husband that “this is the happiest morning of my life”.

I digress.

Since my baby is on the verge of 6 months her sleep has gotten better, including the dreaded day naps.

As a Mom, I’m aware of…

Do you know what clubhouse is?

“You mean the spice company?” asked my husband.

I kept hearing about this new app: Clubhouse. No not the spice company.

I had no idea what this new platform was about until someone on my Facebook newsfeed posted that they had two exclusive invites.

There’s a new app in town ready to shake up social media as we know it…but it’s inaccessible.

The App was created by Paul Davison, a former employee of Pinterest and Rohan Seth, former at Google.

Both live and work in Silicon Valley and appear to be product engineers according…

I read a story on the front page of Medium yesterday about some dude who said he had swapped his coffee habit for green smoothies.

He goes through the motions of replacing his addiction with healthier options that nourish his body.

He’s happier now and has more energy.

Good for him! I wish I had his will power.

In reading about his journey, I realized that no matter how beneficial it is overall, there are just so many MORE reasons why I would never give up coffee.

I don’t think I can, will or ever WANT to give up coffee.

The hardest change

The hardest change was not admitting to myself to I may not find my other half after my Roaring 20’s.

The hardest change was not meeting you and leaving our cards on the table.

The hardest change was not reconnecting and taking a chance on love.

The hardest change was not changing my single status on Facebook to “in a relationship “.

The hardest change was not saying yes to the big question.

The hardest change was not standing around our dearest family and friends as we said “I do”.

The hardest change was not in the…

I said it wouldn’t happen — that I would be that mom who struggled to take a shower.

I aspired to be that mom who still put on her face: eyebrows at the very least.

I am only now wondering how superficial I used to be or was I just a victim of a childless adult?

I sit here writing this short tale as I pump to ensure my little one has enough to eat at night or else I risk the having what my husband and I refer to as the “Boob Attack”.

Today I Googled the phrase “What…
